October saw the highest number of claims submitted this year to Southern California Edison’s Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program, as community members directly impacted by the Eaton Fire continue to evaluate their options for seeking compensation ahead of the Nov. 30, 2026, claim submission deadline. The record month builds on increasing claim activity in recent months. More than 41% of claims have now been submitted through an attorney or authorized representative.
“It’s encouraging to see more families and businesses turning to the program as they recover and move forward,” said Pedro J. Pizarro, president and CEO of Edison International, SCE’s parent company. “There is still time to submit a claim before the November 30 deadline, and we encourage eligible community members to explore what compensation may be available to them.”
The program is designed to provide compensation in line with settlement values for similar claims in past wildfire lawsuits through a more streamlined approach. As of Oct. 30, 2026:
- More than 5,550 claims submitted, consisting of nearly 17,000 individuals, trusts and legal entities, with 41% submitted by attorneys or authorized representatives.
- More than 3,200 offers extended to over 8,000 claimants, totaling about $1.1 billion. Nearly 80% of offers have been accepted, with more pending. Only about 2% of offers have been declined.
- More than 4,450 claimants paid, totaling over $625 million, with many more in process.
Get The Facts
It is important that eligible community members make fully informed decisions based on accurate facts. For anyone who has been told that waiting for the first trial date will provide compensation on a similar timeline or within months of the Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program deadline, that is false. Resolution through litigation will be lengthy. Only eight households have been selected by the court to participate in the initial trial.
Participation in the Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program results in a timely, no-commitment offer and still keeps the option open to pursue the longer litigation path if desired. Claims submitted by Nov. 30 will continue to be reviewed and processed afterward, even if validation or preparation of an offer has not been completed. Submitting a claim, receiving an offer and evaluating that offer do not waive a claimant’s rights.
More Represented Claimants Turning to the Program
Claimants represented by attorneys are increasingly participating in the Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program. For claimants represented at the time they submit a claim, offers include an additional 20% of the net damages portion to help address legal expenses.
Angela Loera, who lost her home in the Eaton Fire, is among those who participated in the program with the assistance of an attorney. Her attorney, Derek Whitefield, has helped hundreds of claimants navigate the program.
“Thank you for making this process easy, quick and seamless,” said Loera in a handwritten note shared with SCE.
Fair Offers, Fast Payments
Litigation may take years. Some claims arising from 2017 and 2018 fires remain pending today. The Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program offers a more streamlined alternative, with offers and payments measured in weeks or months rather than years. To keep this option available, claims must be submitted by Nov. 30, 2026, and claimants must remain responsive to requests for information and communications related to their claim.
- On average, offers are being delivered within 36 days following submission of a substantially complete claim.
- Payments are made within 30 days after all conditions in the settlement agreement have been satisfied, with many claimants receiving payment in as little as two to three weeks.
